Is it a Galaxy Tab? is it an iPad? No its Huawei MediaPad Pro and it looks eerily similar to iPad Pro, but without the pro softwares. The tablet with punch hole display was leaked and then teased by Huawei itself is now officially up.
Android tablet dream ended long time ago and Apple’s tablet dream is running like… like a dream. Even the latest version of Android has a very limited support for the tablet. Only viable Android tablets are made by Samsung and that also can’t hold a candle in front of iPad. The next most popular tablet are just using the price to stay relevant (hint: Amazon Fire Tablet). So what do you do to make something that can mimic iPad’s success? well you copy the design and add a modern twist to it.
The tablet will sport thin bezel, so thin that it will be using punch hole camera. So this makes the world’s first tablet with a punch hole screen that houses 8MP f/2.0 selfie camera adored by 10.8-inch 2,560 x 1,600 LCD screen.
The tablet will also have a familiar iPad Esque keyboard and a drawing stylus too. The stylus will be called M-Pencil, a very original name, which is capable of detecting 4,096 levels of pressure and charges by magnetically attaching to the tablet (where we have seen this before?). A dual-camera will adorn the back side. USB C completes the connectivity package. 4 speakers are provided for media consumption purpose but no 3.5mm port is provided. So what else can be copied?
The tablet will be called MatePad Pro. Which is kind of similar to name of iPad Pro and in order to it a “pro”, Huawei has added its post powerful SOC, the Kirin 990.
Yes this will have Android OS, the EMUI version of Android 10. but which one? well everything points towards AOSP because Huawei still can’t use Google services.
The new tablet offers a 7,250mAh battery juice with 40W fast wired charging. There is also wireless charging support which can be done with 15W charger.
