Ubuntu Pro Launched by Canonical

Ubuntu is creating waves in the enterprise market and Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu has now announced a pro version of its Linux based operating system. Now before any desktop user go crazy on this pro edition, this is built exclusively for Amazon Web Service.

Why Pro?

Enterprise users demand support and robustness at all cost. as per Christian ‘Kiko’ Reis, Vice President, Public Cloud at Canonical, “Users have been running Ubuntu on AWS since 2006. As Canonical assists enterprises moving their mission-critical workloads to AWS, the feedback we receive is that they demand expanded security coverage, greater operational efficiency and native compatibility with AWS features”. Sensing this opportunity, Canonical will make Pro images available which will include all the optimizations in the standard Ubuntu Amazon Machine Images (Amazon AMIs), plus key security and compliance subscriptions automatically enabled. So the benefits are as below:

  • Up to 10 years of package and security updates
  • Kernel Livepatch
  • Customized FIPS and Common Criteria EAL-compliant components
  • Patch coverage for Ubuntu’s infrastructure and app repositories
  • System management with Landscape
  • Integration with AWS security and compliance features

Canonical is an Advanced Tier Technology Partner in the AWS Partner Network (APN), and has now achieved AWS Internet of Things (IoT) Competency status. The APN Advanced Technology Partner status is the highest for APN Technology Partners and it reflects rigorous qualification through AWS’s technical certification
