UFS 3.1 Announced- Gets Even More Faster and Efficient
Universal Flash Storage (UFS) which is widely used in high end smartphones has a new version as announced by Solid State Technology Association JEDEC.
The new UFS 3.1 which succeeds UFS 3.0 announced last year promises in performance and most importantly power saving features.
Boost in Writing Speed: The new standard introduces a SLC non-volatile cache that amplifies write speed. This technology was already used in SSD and now comes as a standard in UFS.
Power Save: It now has a new low power state called DeepSleep targets lower cost systems that share UFS voltage regulators with other functions.
Performance Throttling Feature: It has a Performance Throttling Notification that allows the UFS device to notify the host when storage performance is throttled to high temperature.
JEDEC has also announced a Host Performance Booster (HPB) Extension called JESD220-3 which provides an option to cache the UFS device logical-to-physical address map in the system’s DRAM.
is this better than what Microsoft’s announced Glass based Indestructible Storage Solution? Not even close, but this is what we have right now compared to glass solution which is no one knows when it will be avaiable.
