Alibaba Unveils AI inference chip with unprecedented Machine learning speed
Online e-commerce giant Alibaba has introduced its first AI inference chip i.e a neural processing unit called Hanguang 800. The chip will be used on their e-commerce sites.
Alibaba claims that neural network processing power compared to the existing system is almost 12 times faster than before. The task which took 1 hour now takes just 5 minutes.
The system is used from product search, recommendations, automatic translation on its e-commerce sites etc.
This announcement comes in the heat of China vs USA tariff war and it seems Alibaba is trying to reduce its dependence on USA based products and using more and more in house development including the use of RISC V processors.
