AMD Launches Most Efficient Ryzen Embedded APUs with Just 6W Power Rating
One of the least spoken and discussed CPUs are the embedded one, however, they still remain one of the most important market and AMD has now announced 2 new APUs for the embedded market with power rating starting from 6W to hefty 10W. This competes against intel’s Cheery Trail, Apollo Lake and Gemini Lake CPUs
The Power Champion: Ryzen Embedded R1102G
This is the most efficient chip among the entire R1xxxx lineup at just 6W. This understandably has just two cores of Zen with Base frequency at 1.2Ghz and turbo of 2.6Ghz. 1MB of L2 and 4MB of L2 cache is available. However, due to power limitations, only single-channel DDR4 memory controller is supported.
Being and APU, these have a Vega based GPU having 192SP and Clock speed of 1 GHz. This supports upto 2 displays at 4K each.
The More Competent APU: Ryzen Embedded R1305G
This is similar to its efficient sibling but has SMT enabled with just two cores and 4 threads of Zen with Base frequency at 1.5 GHz and turbo of 2.8 GHz. 1MB of L2 and 4MB of L2 cache is available. The power envelop in this case is between 8W to 10W. However, this also supports dual-channel DDR4 memory controller.
Being and APU, these have a Vega based GPU having 192SP and Clock speed of 1 GHz. This supports upto 3 displays at 4K each.
These already have customers namely Kontron and SimplyNUC
