Apple may use MiniLED for iPad Pro
Yes, this is not a spelling mistake. This actually MacroLEDs we are talking about. Present technology has various limitation be it OLED or LCD. Where OLED do give better contrast and colour output, but longevity and burn-in issues prevail. LCDs on the other hand has great viewing angles with a better life, but can’t match the brightness and contrast of OLED.
Enter MicroLED. wait… but these articles talk about MiniLED. MicroLED is the new rage which resolves the issue faced by OLED and LCD technology. TCL has already shown a working MicroLED TVs to showcase its benefits.
So what is stopping its wide adoption? Cost! Manufacturing MicroLED is a costly affair and is thus not a cost effective solution for mobiles and tablets. Thus enter MiniLEDs. Mini-LED lighting elements are bigger than the microLED ones. But they are still much smaller than what we have in current displays. MiniLED can be the bridge to MicroLEDs until manufacturers gets its cost down.
Apple BTW is investing heavily in MicroLED and MiniLED just seems like a stop gap measure for them.
