New 2020 iPad Pro Announced- Becomes more Laptop like with Expensive Trackpad and Mouse Support

Apple last year touted that their iPad Pros are so powerful that it is better than most of the laptops available in the market. In the same vein, Apple has now announced new iPad Pros in 11 inch and 12.9 inch form factor and the most prominent features are support for trackpad and mouse other than performance which iPads are known for.

New Keyboard

The new keyboard and rather pricy one is introduced by Apple and is calling it “Magic Keyboard”. The Magic Keyboard can attach magnetically and can unfolds and elevates the iPad to a more comfortable viewing position. It is backlit and charging is done through USB-C passthrough. It also has a trackpad on it which as per Apple . “has been completely reimagined for iPad”. However, like all accessories by Apple, this also costs a whopping $299 for the 11-inch model and $349 for the 12.9-inch version.

Performance

The new SOC housed in 2020 iPad Pros is called A12Z Bionic Chip. This is the highest performing SOC ever in an iPad thanks to its 8-core CPU with eight cores GPU design. As usual, neural engine is also there for AI tasks. Apple has proclaimed that these iPad Pro are more powerful than most Windows PC laptops. This SOC also supports gigabit LTE with select models, however, there is no 5G support.

Camera

This time iPad pros also get the 3 camera module array. However, unlike the iPhone counterpart, only two of them are actual cameras. There’s a regular wide-angle 12MP and an 10MP ultrawide 124 degree view camera. The third one is the most interesting as it is a LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) scanner. This sensor uses lasers for depth-sensing and augmented reality. and thus makes it an extremely powerful 3D sensing system. It determines distances by measuring how long it takes light to reach an object and reflect back. This could potentially come to iPhones also and may help in generating better portrait mode in future.

Others

Since the iPad Pro are aimed at professional, this also has an upgraded “studio-quality” mics and four powerful speakers. The battery life is advertised to last for 10-hours. The 120Hz Pro motion display along with a resolution of 2388 x 1668 (for 11 inch model) and 2732 x 2048 (for 12.9 inch model) completes the package.

Price

The iPads are available in silver and gray, with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB storage options.
