AMD achieves realtime 8Kp60 Encode with single socket

The Tokyo Olympics games will be held soon in 2020 and Beamr imaging has announced that with its advanced video encoding engine on AMD’s Epyc 7742, they are able to achieve real-time at 8K resolution 10-bit HDR and 60 frames per second video encoding.

This sort of realtime encoding is suitable for live broadcast level streaming.

The feat was achieved using a single socket Epyc processor i.e. 64 cores with 128 thread with base clock of 2.25Ghz and boost clock of 3.4Ghz with a remarkable low TDP of 225W. This is very significant as this is the world’s first for a single CPU.
