Quake II RTX Gets Update- Substantial Ray Tracing & Texture Improvements

Once Quake II was in the arena of Nvidia RTX (See what we did there?), it was clear Nvidia will not be stopping right there. In fact, Nvidia has announced a separate studio for bringing back old games in RTX avatar. After releasing the initial version of Id software’s (now under Bethesda) Quake 2 in RTX form, Nvidia has spruced it up more and released a new RTX Quake II.

Changes include

  • 400 textures updated
  • Water improvement with underwater godrays
  • Recursive reflection in some cases (reflections of reflection)
  • Improved glass rendering
  • denoising improvements

Apart from this, There are performance improvements all thanks to dynamic resolution Scaling Options. when dynamic scaling is activated, the game will try to keep the target frame rate by adjusting the scale between minimum and maximum

There new settings to play with too which includes:

  • Reflection and Refraction Depth: configure the number of allowed reflection or refraction bounces, which most prominently affects the recursive reflections demonstrated earlier
  • Temporal Anti-Aliasing Toggle: enable or disable our post-process anti-aliasing
  • Security Cameras: enable security camera monitors to display real-time gameplay, as shown earlier
  • Thick Glass Refraction: experimental option that renders more physically accurate representations of thick glass, with internal reflection and refraction

The update should be as easy as going to steam client or download from here. oh and the demo for three maps is free for everyone.
