TSMC counter Sues GloFo
Lawyers are having a field day as the suing between technology giants continues. GlobalFoundries have recently sued TSMC for using technologies whose patents are held by them and were seeking total ban of chips imported by Nvidia and Apple (see the magic, no AMD here).
TSMC has already declared that the accusations are baseless and have more than 37000 patents to defend itself. And surprising no one, TSMC has now counter sued GloFo for infringing its 25 patents! The lawsuit was filed in USA, Germany and Singapore.
This is to be noted that TSMC is the foundry giant with bleeding edge manufacturing nodes and is one of the biggest suppliers of chips to AMD, Nvidia and Apple. GlobalFoundries, on the other hand, has recently stopped chasing the bleeding edge node and now provides 10-12nm advance nodes to its customers.
AMD on the hand is customer of both TSMC and GloFo and might get caught in the crossfire.
