TSMC and GloFo Kiss & Make Up- Announces Cross License.
Well what do we have here, a battle which was turning more fierce with both foundries suing each other has turned other way around. Both TSMC and Global Foundaries have issued statements where they have settled the dispute and have signed 10 years cross license which settled global patent issues.
It all began when Global Foundries sued TSMC for 16 of its patents covering various aspects of chip manufacturing
This includes those chips that use FinFET transistors. In particular, the company claims that TSMC’s 7 nm, 10 nm, 12 nm, 16 nm, and 28 nm nodes use its intellectual property. The potential damages may reach in billions of dollars. The Suit included many TSMC customers.
The game took new turn when TSMC counter sued GloFo for infringing 25 patents.
Well all is settled now and this gives foundries more healthy competition as the next battle will have players like Intel and Samsung.
