Huawei Mate X Unfolds and Launches to Expensive Side
Huawei has finally done it, just like its Korean counterpart -Samsung, the foldable Mate X after a bunch of delays and ban from USA, is launched in china at the cool price of $2400. Now that is even more expensive than Samsung Galaxy Fold, but so is the oomph factor.
Huawei had a bumpy ride with Mate X, with delays everywhere. Especially when Samsung fold was announced with delays. Huawei took a step back to make sure Mate X’s fate is better. Meanwhile, USA took an aim at Huwaei and that has really taken a toll on them. But brave enough they have gone ahead with the Mate X plan.
Unlike Samsung and Motorola Razr, Mate X is more futuristic as it uses one less screen and folds screen from outside to… well outside. This makes its fold area have less crease than Galaxy Fold.
The Screen
The screen is an OLED panel which wraps around the body. The full unfolded panel is an 8-inch 2480×2200 in size and resolution. When closed, it splits into a 2480×1148, 6.6-inch display on the front and a 6.3-inch, 2480×892 display on the back. Area not covered by houses the 3 cameras, power button and USB C port.
Under the hood
Powering the device is Huawei Kirin 980 SoC ( Octa-core (CPU: 2×2.6 GHz Cortex-A76 & 2×1.92 GHz Cortex-A76 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A55, GPU: Mali-G76 MP10) aided by 8GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and a huge 4500mAh battery. This device has a 5G support but is very specific to China’s band. This will not support the 5G in USA which is called “mmWave”.
Camera
The quad camera setup has main camera of 40 MP, f/1.8, 27mm (wide), 1/1.7″. Second camera which act as telephoto has 8 MP, f/2.4, 52mm. One Ultrawide camera with 16 MP, f/2.2, 17mm. Last but not least, a TOF.
Now, this is definitely good but as of now due to modem requirement, this seems to be a china only device. will this get a worldwide release? Maybe.
But while we wait, lets drool over the sexy mate x photos.
