Google Suspends updates and Google Apps license in New handsets in Turkey

Reuters has reported that Google is no longer issuing Google Mobile Services licenses for phones in Turkey. The ambit is wide enough to cover all the phones sold in Turkey. But what is the reason? Turkey’s Authority claims that Google is abusing its monopolistic stance and cannot change the default search engine on phones.

Nothing to fear for the Existing mobile owners as they will continue to work as usual. However, Google may suspend OS updates, which will result in a security issues.

Turkey’s AUthority charged Google $17.4 million for changing its software agreement which removed the option to change the default search engine. Google later made some changes but didn’t work as users still couldn’t change the default search engine. Further continuous fine was imposed by Turkey till the issue continued.

Google is now using its power to apply pressure to change the ruling by suspending its service license and future updates.
