Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 720G, 662 and 460 with India Focus GPS support
Qualcomm this week has announced three new chipsets ranging from entry level SOC to Upper Mid tier SOC called 720G (Announced after Powerful Snapdragon 765), 662, and 460 SoCs. The new chipsets are said to focus on markets such as India as they now offer new GPS Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC). Also the biggest elephant in the room is lack of 5G support. But these modern SOC do have latest Wifi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 support. As said in the press release:
“Today’s smartphone users want fast, seamless connectivity, advanced features and long-lasting battery life,” said Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “This expansion of our 4G lineup enables our partners to offer sophisticated solutions that meet global demand and enable a remarkable gaming experience across multiple tiers and price segments.”
Snapdragon 720G– This 8nm SOC has the following features
CPU
The most powerful of the lot, this SOC has two cluster design. The most powerful cluster has 2x Kryo 470 CPU running at 2.20 Ghz.
The second lightweight cluster has 6x Kryo 470 based running at 1.8Ghz.
GPU
Adreno 618 handles the GPU duty.
DSP
This has the new hexagon 688
Memory
Memory support is limited to 2x16bit, LPDDR4x @ 1866 Mhz.
ISP
This uses Spectra 350 for ISP and can support 36MP single / 22MP dual sensors.
Snapdragon 662
CPU
The mid range one SOC has two cluster design. The most powerful cluster has 4x Kryo 260 CPU running at 2.0 Ghz.
The second lightweight cluster has 4x Kryo 260 based running at 1.8Ghz.
GPU
Adreno 610 handles the GPU duty.
DSP
This has the new hexagon 683
Memory
Memory support is limited to 2x16bit, LPDDR4x @ 1866 Mhz.
ISP
This uses Spectra 340T for ISP and can support 25MP single / 16MP dual sensors.
Snapdragon 460– This has the most significant bump in performance compared to other SOC announced as the CPU used here is based on Cortex A73 which is first for a 4xx Series SOC by Qualcomm. The GPU is also much powerful here as it matches the 6xx series SOC.
CPU
The low end SOC has two cluster design. The most powerful cluster has 4x Kryo 240 CPU running at 1.80 Ghz.
The second lightweight cluster has 4x Kryo 240 based running at unknown clock.
GPU
Adreno 610 handles the GPU duty.
DSP
