Sundar Pichai gets an Upgrade- Becomes CEO of Google’s Parent Company Alphabet
Alphabet was established by Larry Page and Sergey Brin as a new entity that would focus on multiple activities including search related and thus Google was subsumed as one of the subsidiaries and Sundar Pichai was declared CEO in 2015 for Google.
Now the founder of Alphabet has announced that they are stepping down from their respective roles and Sundar Pichai will be stepped up as CEO for both Google and Alphabet. The founders will continue their involvement in the company as co-founders, shareholders, and members of the Board of Directors.
This step is taken to simplify the management structure as Alphabet is now well-established, and Google and the Other Bets operating effectively as independent companies.
Sundar now being CEO of Alphabet, he will be responsible and accountable for leading Google, and managing Alphabet’s investment in current and future portfolio.
Sundar Pichai wrote “I want to be clear that this transition won’t affect the Alphabet structure or the work we do day to day. I will continue to be very focused on Google and the deep work we’re doing to push the boundaries of computing and build a more helpful Google for everyone. At the same time, I’m excited about Alphabet and its long term focus on tackling big challenges through technology “
Sundar Pichai is an Indian American business executive born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. He has been with Google for past 15 years and has worked in various capacities and was involved in development of Google Chrome, Chrome OS, Google Drive, Gmail and Google Maps and Later on Android has a whole.
