AMD Ryzen APU May get Vega 15 GPU

The APU side for Ryzen CPU which comes with integrated GPU has been lagging behind the mainline Ryzen but the Zen 2 based APU is on the horizon and integrated GPU seems to get more beefier.

The Ryzen 4000 APU code named ‘Renoir’ may get GPU from vega 12 to Vega 15 as per leaker “Locuza”. This is all thanks to use of 7nm fabrication process which can result in Vega 15 integration in a respective power envelope.

Even though the CPU side of the APU will catch up to mainline Ryzen APUs, The GPU is still GCN based Vega instead of RDNA based Navi. However, the CPU will launch in 2020 and at that time this APU will be one generation behind once AMD jumps with next Zen 3 on 7nm+.

What does all this means?

The general lagging of APU with respect to CPU and GPU means AMD wants to manufacture such APU on the matured fabrication process in cheap. These APUs are generally aimed at entry level users who at the time of purchase are not interested in external GPU. Also Vega GPUs are no slouch and might just make these GPUs the most powerful integrated GPU.

For those who are hoping to get vega for mobile gaming, a Switch Inspired PC Smach Z might be of interest.
