AMD Unleashes its Most Powerful Desktop CPU yet: Threadripper 3990X with 64C 128T
AMD has started 2020 with a bang and has launched the most powerful desktop CPU yet with massive 64 Cores and 128 Threads called Threadripper 3990X. Just to sink in the achievement, there is no Desktop CPU available with this amount of threads. The leaks for this massive CPU was already out along with leaked packaging.
Specification
Apart from 64 cores and 128 threads, The CPU will feature 288 MB of total cache. PCIe Gen 4 lanes and will be limited to measly TDP of 280W. Clock speed for the base clock will be 2.90 GHz boost clock of 4.3 GHz will be supported for a single core. The cores are achieved by combing 8 Zen 2 CCDs.
Performance
AMD showcased Cinebench numbers for this threaded monster and the chip scoring over 25000 points in Cinebench R20 in multi-threaded mode. The processors performed better by 30% in V-Ray render test.
The Processor is priced at $3990 US and will be available from 7th Feb 2020. This is essentially a consumer variant of the 64-core EPYC 7702P and thus the price closely matches to the EPYC CPU retailing at $4450
