Epic acquires Shave and a Haircut
Epic is on an acquisition spree and has recently acquired asset making company Quixel and now it has consumed the plugin for Maya called Shave and a Haircut from Joe Alter.
Shave and a Haircut is an interactive grooming and styling tool for hair and fur, with associated shaders for offline rendering in Arnold, RenderMan, and V-Ray. It is currently productized as a v.9.6 plugin for Autodesk Maya
Not only they have acquired it but has now made it available for free with Unreal Engine which used to cost $399 for a perpetual license.
To download and install the software, follow these instructions:
- Create an Epic Games account (Epic will send you an email verification).
- Create a GitHub account with the same email address (GitHub will send you an email verification).
- Sign in to your Epic Games account, go to your profile and select PERSONAL.
- Select CONNECTED ACCOUNTS and select CONNECT under the GitHub icon.
- Follow the prompts to link your accounts.
- GitHub will send you an email from EpicTeamAdmin, inviting you to join EpicGames—accept this invitation.
- You should now see the Shave-And-A-Haircut repository on GitHub. The Installers folder contains the executables you’ll need to install the software.
