OnePlus Teases Camera That Can Go Invisible
The original plan was to bring OnePlus concept phone at the CES 2020, which will be the first for OnePlus. However, OnePlus has gone ahead and teased the concept phone through its twitter handle.
So what is it?
As can be seen in the video, the camera module on the OnePlus is in hiding when not in use. But when it is to be used, it reveals itself. Unlike other technology where the camera can be hidden but has to be popped out, this one just magically makes its appearance.
How does it work?
The camera covering the use an electromagnetic glass. This electromagnetic glass can change its tint by applying mild electricity. So the magical act is simply applying current to change the tint. This is already available in high-end McLaren supercars and Boing Jets.
But Why?
Well for the most part, it looks cool. The cameras on the back of new smartphones are getting uglier with so many holes. Apple even went ahead and made these holes as much visible as possible and that has kicked of a new hysteria trypanophobia, the fear of holes.
Hiding the camera section would definitely make the rear of the smartphone much better to look at.
Will it be available?
This is just a concept phone and manufacturing such glass must have been a challenge, not to forget that OnePlus generally tries to drive cost down. But since this is related to McLaren Cars and OnePlus do have McLaren editions, this might go into the most expensive iteration yet. The intention would be more clear at CES2020.
